Brazilian rainbow boas demand high, stable humidity of 75–90%, so use a well-sealed 75–115 L terrarium with a moisture-holding substrate like cypress mulch, a large water bowl and a humid hide. Keep a modest gradient — around 28–30°C warm and 24°C cool — because they dislike high temperatures; that iridescent shimmer comes from healthy, well-hydrated skin. Feed appropriately sized rats or mice every 7–10 days for juveniles and every 2–3 weeks for adults. Tong-feed and keep portions sensible, as these fairly sedentary boas are prone to obesity; a lean, muscular body keeps them at their most vibrant. Rainbow boas are generally calm but can be defensive as youngsters, so build trust with short, gentle sessions and support the whole body. The chief husbandry challenge is humidity: too dry and you get bad sheds and scale problems, too wet and stagnant and you invite scale rot and respiratory infection. A humid but airy, spot-cleaned setup keeps them healthy for over two decades.
