A chain-link pattern of gold and black on a fish barely 5 cm long, and unlike most loaches it swims out in the open all day. A whole botia personality shrunk to nano scale.

๐ Care guide
The Dwarf Chain Loach (Ambastaia sidthimunki) is native to the Mekong and Mae Khlong basins in Thailand and Laos and reaches only about 4 to 5.5 cm. Wild populations declined severely and the fish sold today are almost entirely commercially bred, which is a genuinely good outcome for the species. Its gold body carries a black chain pattern along the back and side. It is highly social and must be kept in a group of six or more, ideally eight, in a tank of 75 litres or more at 24-28C with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5, clean water and moderate flow. Provide sand, driftwood, caves and plants; unusually for a loach it spends much of the day in mid-water rather than hiding. Feed sinking pellets, wafers, frozen bloodworm, daphnia and brine shrimp. It is peaceful and community safe, eats small pest snails, and needs half-strength medication as a scaleless fish. Keeping too few is the single most common mistake.
