๐Ÿ“– Care guide

Green iguanas are large arboreal lizards whose adult needs are routinely underestimated: a full-grown iguana requires a custom enclosure or dedicated room several metres tall with sturdy climbing branches, a basking spot of 35โ€“40ยฐC, and very strong UVB, without which they cannot process calcium at all. Humidity should sit around 60โ€“80% with a large water area for soaking. They are strict herbivores, and diet mistakes are the leading cause of illness. Feed a wide variety of calcium-rich dark leafy greens โ€” collard, mustard, dandelion, turnip greens โ€” with some other vegetables and only minimal fruit; never feed animal protein, which devastates their kidneys over time. Calcium and correct UVB together prevent the metabolic bone disease that cripples so many pet iguanas. Iguanas can tame with consistent, respectful handling, but they are strong, have sharp claws and a powerful tail, and males can become territorial and aggressive in breeding season. Support the body, mind the tail, and read their body language. The signature health problems are metabolic bone disease, kidney disease from protein or dehydration, respiratory infection in cool damp conditions, and obesity โ€” all avoidable with space, UVB and a correct plant diet.
