๐ Care guide
The true Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni) is an Atlantic and Caribbean species reaching about 4 cm. Semi-translucent with reddish longitudinal stripes, it is best known for eating nuisance Aiptasia anemones, though appetite varies between individuals. It is nocturnal and often hides by day. House in a 40-litre (10-gallon) or larger reef tank at 24-26C, salinity 1.024-1.026, pH 8.1-8.4, with copper-free, stable water and slow drip acclimation. Provide rockwork with crevices for daytime shelter. It scavenges leftover food and detritus and will accept mysis and pellets. Fully reef-safe and peaceful, it does especially well in small groups, which improves the odds of active Aiptasia control. Avoid confusing it with similar-looking imported species that do not eat pests.
