๐Ÿ“– Care guide

The Suri is the less common of the two alpaca types, making up a small fraction of the world population and originating like the Huacaya in the Andean highlands of South America. Weighing 55-84 kg and living 15-20 years, Suris are distinguished by silky fiber that grows in long, twisting, lustrous locks that drape close to the body. Like all alpacas, Suris are obligate herd animals requiring the company of their own kind, never kept singly. Provide well-drained pasture, a shelter offering shade and shelter from rain, and predator-proof fencing. Their diet is primarily grass and hay with camelid minerals; overfeeding must be avoided. Suris need annual shearing, routine toenail trimming, monitoring of their ever-growing teeth, and regular parasite control. Their calm, quiet demeanor and exquisite fleece make them a favorite among dedicated fiber breeders.
