The Cymric is simply a long-haired Manx — the same round, tailless, powerfully built cat in a plush double coat. Its personality is a delight: loyal, gentle and playful, dog-like in its devotion, it bonds closely with its family, follows people around, is a strong jumper thanks to muscular hind legs, and has a watchdog streak, sometimes greeting strangers with a soft growl before warming up. It fits well into family life with children and other pets. The long, dense coat needs brushing two or three times a week, and daily during the heavy seasonal molts, to prevent mats. Give the Cymric plenty of interactive play and companionship to satisfy its engaged mind. The crucial health point is the same as the Manx: taillessness comes from the Manx gene, which can cause 'Manx syndrome' — a spectrum of spinal and nerve defects affecting the bladder, bowel and hind legs in serious cases. Responsible breeders never pair two tailless cats and let kittens mature before placing them, so buy carefully and ask about the line. Monitor urinary and bowel health, keep the cat lean, and maintain routine dental and general care.
