๐ Care guide
Heterometrus species range across the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, from Malaysia to India. Similar in size to the emperor at 12-18 cm, these scorpions live roughly 5-8 years and also fluoresce under UV. They are noticeably more defensive and skittish than emperors, readily brandishing their pincers and willing to sting, though the venom is mild and comparable to a wasp for most people. House them in a warm, humid terrarium at 25-30C and around 75-80 percent humidity, with deep moist substrate for burrowing, plentiful hides, and a water dish. They are best kept singly, as communal setups risk cannibalism. Feed crickets and roaches every few days for juveniles, less often for adults. Because of their temperament, avoid handling entirely and use tools during maintenance. Watch for the pale, soft period after each molt, when they must be left undisturbed and unfed.
