๐Ÿ“– Care guide

Hadrurus arizonensis roams the deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Reaching 12-14 cm, it is the largest scorpion in North America, and females can be surprisingly long-lived at 10-20 years. The brown-and-yellow body is covered in fine hairs that sense ground vibrations. Its venom is mild for most people but the sting is painful, and the animal is defensive. Keep this arid species in a dry terrarium at 25-32C with a basking gradient and very low humidity, using deep sand-and-clay substrate that holds a burrow, plus a rock hide and a small water dish. Avoid dampness, which causes fatal fungal and respiratory problems. Feed crickets and roaches every week or two, and provide a slightly cooler, drier setup than tropical scorpions. Never handle; they are quick to sting when provoked. Their hardy, long-lived nature rewards keepers who replicate genuine desert conditions.
