๐Ÿ“– Care guide

Cambarellus patzcuarensis, best known through its orange 'CPO' form, is a diminutive crayfish native to Lake Patzcuaro in Mexico. Reaching only 3-4 cm, it lives around two to three years and, unlike larger crayfish, is peaceful enough to share a nano aquarium with small fish and shrimp. Its bright colour and constant foraging make it an engaging aquatic invertebrate. Keep it in a planted freshwater aquarium of 20 litres or more with a gentle filter, stable water at 18-24C, and hiding places among plants, rocks, or PVC, which are essential shelter during the vulnerable post-molt period. Feed sinking pellets, algae wafers, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein. Good water quality and adequate dissolved minerals support healthy molting, the main risk point in their lives. They may nibble very slow or ailing fish but generally coexist well. As a fully aquatic species they are observed rather than handled.
