Tliltocatl albopilosus originates in the rainforests and scrub of Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua. A robust terrestrial species with a 12-14 cm legspan, it is one of the easiest and most forgiving tarantulas, with females living around 8-12 years and a calm, deliberate temperament that suits beginners. House one adult in a floor-space terrarium with 8-10 cm of slightly moist substrate, a cork hide, and a shallow water bowl. Keep temperatures 22-27C with moderate humidity around 65-70 percent, lightly moistening one corner rather than the whole tank. They are hardy eaters, taking crickets and roaches weekly, and grow at a moderate pace. Docile but equipped with urticating hairs, they rarely bite and prefer to flee. Watch for the darkening abdomen that signals an impending molt, and leave the spider undisturbed until its new exoskeleton hardens.
