๐Ÿ“– Care guide

Fiddler crabs (Minuca and Uca species) inhabit brackish tidal mudflats and mangroves along coasts worldwide. Small at 2-5 cm, they live two to three years in good care, and males sport a single enormous claw used for display. Highly active and social, they make entertaining pets, but a critical and often-fatal mistake is keeping them in pure freshwater; they require brackish water. Provide a paludarium with a sloped setup offering both brackish water (mixed with marine salt to a low salinity) and a dry sandy land area they can climb out onto, kept warm at 24-28C. They burrow and forage, sifting sand for detritus, so feed algae, prepared foods, and small protein items with a calcium source. Keep them in small groups for natural social behaviour. Provide cover and stable conditions to support molting. They are observation animals; handling stresses them and risks losing that prized claw.
