๐ Care guide
Rhinella marina is a giant toad native to Central and South America, infamously introduced elsewhere where it became a destructive invasive pest. Among the largest toads, big females exceed 20 cm and over a kilogram, and they can live 10-15 years or more. Extremely hardy and long-lived, they are easy to keep but demand caution: their parotoid glands produce potent bufotoxins that can sicken or kill pets and are dangerous if they reach the mouth or eyes. House a single adult in a large floor-space terrarium with moist substrate, hides, and a shallow water area, at 22-28C with moderate humidity, keeping it clean given heavy waste. Feed a varied insect and occasional rodent diet with supplements, avoiding overfeeding and impaction. Because of the toxin, handle only when necessary with washed, wet hands, wash thoroughly afterward, and keep them strictly away from other animals and children. Note that keeping cane toads is restricted or banned in some regions.
