๐Ÿ“– Care guide

The Giant Danio (Devario aequipinnatus) comes from fast, clear hill streams in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Myanmar and reaches about 10 to 12 cm, making it by far the largest commonly kept danio. Its blue-grey body is broken by irregular gold bars, and the pattern brightens noticeably when the shoal is settled and well fed. It needs swimming length above all: a tank of 200 litres or more, at least 100 cm long, at 20-26C with a pH of 6.5 to 7.8 and good flow and oxygenation. Keep a group of six or more and cover the tank, since it jumps hard. Feed flake, pellets and regular frozen or live daphnia, bloodworm and brine shrimp. It is extremely hardy, tolerates cooler water and is a good dither fish for larger cichlids. The honest caution is its speed and boldness rather than aggression: it will outrace slower tankmates to food and its constant motion stresses shy species, so it belongs with robust fish.
