📖 Care guide

The green anole is a tiny, fast, active lizard best enjoyed as a display animal — it is too small and quick for regular handling, and stresses easily, so it is a look-don't-touch pet. It thrives in a tall, planted terrarium with branches to climb and bask on, UVB and a gentle heat gradient, and daily misting for humidity, since like a chameleon it drinks droplets from leaves rather than standing water. It shifts between green and brown to signal mood and temperature, not to camouflage. Feeding is small, gut-loaded insects dusted with calcium and vitamin D3 — appropriate to its tiny size — offered every day or two. If kept in a small group only one male should be present, as males fight. Anoles are inexpensive and rewarding but not indestructible: metabolic bone disease from missing UVB or calcium, dehydration from too little misting, stress, stuck shed and parasites are the main risks. Provide the planted height, correct humidity and lighting, and handle only when unavoidable, and a green anole is a charming darting micro-dinosaur that lives around four to eight years.
