Green tree pythons are arboreal specialists that need a tall, planted terrarium with several sturdy horizontal perches at different heights. Aim for a basking perch of 30–32°C, an ambient of 26–28°C dropping a little at night, and humidity of 60–80% maintained by misting and good ventilation to avoid stagnant, mould-prone air. Feed appropriately sized rodents from long tongs, offering the prey up near the coiled snake since they hunt from their perch. Juveniles eat every 7–10 days, adults every 2–3 weeks; this species is easily overfed, and an obese GTP loses the tidy coil that makes it so striking. These are look-don't-handle snakes with delicate skin and a readiness to strike when disturbed; keep interaction to health checks and enclosure maintenance, lifting the perch rather than grabbing the animal. Respiratory infections from poor ventilation, scale rot from constant wetness, and thermal burns from unprotected bulbs are the main hazards, all avoidable with a well-designed, airy setup.
