The spotted python hails from eastern Queensland and northern Australia, favoring rocky outcrops, caves, and woodlands where it often preys on bats and small mammals. It stays small, generally 0.9 to 1.3 meters and around half a kilogram to a kilogram, and can live an impressive 20 to 30 years. Its gentle disposition and easy care needs make it a favorite among keepers wanting a small snake. Provide a secure 75-liter enclosure with hides and low branches for occasional climbing. Maintain a warm basking area near 31-33C, a cooler end in the mid 20s, and humidity of 50-60%. Feed frozen-thawed rodents every seven to ten days, sizing prey modestly for this slender snake. Spotted pythons feed reliably and handle well; even hatchlings usually settle fast, making them undemanding and rewarding companions.
