Woma pythons come from arid Australia and want a dry 90–115 L terrarium with a hot basking zone of 33–35°C, a cool side near 25°C and low humidity. Give them a diggable substrate, a couple of hides and a modest water bowl; excellent ventilation keeps the air appropriately dry. Womas lack the heat-sensing pits of most pythons, relying on eyesight and scent. Feed appropriately sized rodents every 7–10 days for juveniles and every 2–3 weeks for adults. Because wild womas eat reptiles, they have an especially enthusiastic feeding response and may bite cage-mates or a keeper's hand near feeding, so single-house them and always use long tongs. Away from food they are notably calm and handle well; support the body and enjoy their placid, exploratory nature. Keep them warm and arid to prevent respiratory infection and scale rot, offer a rough surface for clean sheds, and control portions since a sedentary desert python gains weight quickly. Good husbandry yields a 20–30 year companion.
