๐Ÿ“– Care guide

The Koran or Semicircle Angelfish (Pomacanthus semicirculatus) is an Indo-Pacific species including the Red Sea, growing to about 35 to 40 cm. Juveniles are dark blue-black with semicircular white and pale blue arcs; adults turn olive-brown speckled with blue, with blue-edged fins and the calligraphic markings on the tail that inspired the common name. It needs 700 litres or more at 24-27C, salinity 1.024-1.026, pH 8.1-8.4, with caves for shelter and open water for cruising. Feed sponge-based angelfish preparations, dried algae, mysis, chopped seafood and quality pellets two or three times a day. Among the large angels it is the most forgiving, adapts readily to prepared foods and is often recommended as the first Pomacanthus for a keeper stepping up to a large system. The honest constraints remain: it will sample corals, clams and tubeworms, so it belongs in a fish-only tank, and it grows large enough that the tank must be planned around the adult, not the juvenile.
