๐Ÿ“– Care guide

The marginated tortoise is native to Greece and parts of the Balkans and Italy, inhabiting dry, rocky, mountainous hillsides and scrubland. As the biggest European tortoise it reaches 30-38 cm, and it is very long-lived at 60-100 years, so like its Mediterranean relatives it represents a decades-long, potentially generational commitment. Hardy and cold-tolerant relative to tropical species, marginateds do well in outdoor pens in temperate climates or on a large indoor tortoise table with deep substrate. Provide a basking area of 32-35ยฐC, a cooler zone, and strong UVB lighting, along with a dry, well-ventilated environment and a humid hide. They handle brief cool spells and may brumate if healthy. Feed a fiber-rich, low-protein diet of Mediterranean weeds, dandelion, clover, plantain, and leafy greens, limiting fruit and protein, and always provide fresh water for drinking and soaking.
