๐ Care guide
The Pacman frog is a big-mouthed ambush predator that spends most of its life half-buried and motionless, waiting for food โ which makes it one of the most spectacular yet genuinely low-effort amphibians to keep. It needs a simple setup: a humid enclosure with several centimetres of soft, damp coconut-fibre substrate to burrow into, a shallow water dish, gentle warmth of around 24โ28ยฐC, and cleanliness above all. Because amphibian skin absorbs chemicals, oils and toxins directly, a Pacman frog should essentially never be handled; if you must move it, use clean wet hands or a container. Its enormous appetite is the biggest care pitfall: it will eat almost anything that fits in its mouth and is very prone to obesity from overfeeding, so feed appropriately sized, gut-loaded, calcium-and-D3-dusted insects on a sensible schedule rather than whenever it begs. Health issues stem from diet and hygiene: obesity and impaction from overfeeding or loose substrate, metabolic bone disease without calcium and D3, and bacterial skin infections (including 'red leg') from dirty, fouled water. Keep the enclosure clean and humid, dust and portion the food correctly, and this glorious grumpy blob will live seven to fifteen years โ housed strictly alone, since it will eat a tankmate.
