Avicularia avicularia ranges across northern South America and the Caribbean, living in tree canopies and bromeliads. It stays modest at around a 9-13 cm legspan and lives roughly 8-12 years for females. Unlike ground-dwelling species, pink toes are lightweight, fast, and prone to leaping, so calm handling is essential if attempted at all. House them in a tall, well-ventilated arboreal enclosure with vertical cork bark, live or artificial foliage for anchoring web tunnels, and a water dish. Aim for 24-28C and moderate humidity around 65-75 percent, but prioritise cross-ventilation over dampness, as stagnant, wet air causes fatal respiratory decline. Mist lightly rather than saturating. Feed flying insects and small roaches. This New World species has weaker urticating hairs but may fling faeces defensively and bolts readily, so work slowly and low over a soft surface.
