The Reeve's turtle, also called the Chinese pond turtle, is native to eastern China, Korea, and Japan, where it inhabits ponds, canals, and slow streams. It is a manageable small species at 10-23 cm and lives around 20-30 years, making it a favorite for keepers who want an interactive but modestly sized aquatic turtle. Provide a 150-250 liter aquatic setup with clean filtered water, only moderately deep since Reeve's turtles are not the strongest swimmers, plus abundant basking access. Maintain a basking spot at 30-32°C with UVB and water in the low-to-mid 20s Celsius. They tolerate cooler temperatures than tropical species. Being calm and sociable, they often bask together peacefully. Feed an omnivorous mix of pellets, insects, worms, aquatic plants, and leafy greens, adjusting toward more vegetation as they mature.
