A squat pyramid of banded shell that can flip itself upright when it tumbles, unlike most of its colleagues. It also breeds in the tank, which is close to a miracle for a clean-up crew.

๐ Care guide
Trochus Snails (Trochus and Tectus species) are Indo-Pacific grazers reaching about 3 to 5 cm with a broad conical shell, often banded in purple, green or red. They graze film algae, diatoms and green hair algae from rock and glass and are considered among the most effective algae snails available. Keep them in an established reef of 60 litres or more at 24-27C, salinity 1.024-1.026, pH 8.1-8.4, with normal reef calcium and alkalinity and no copper, and drip acclimate on arrival. Two qualities set them apart from other clean-up snails: they can usually right themselves after falling from the glass, which greatly reduces losses, and they will spawn in a healthy reef tank, so a small starting population can become self-sustaining. Stock roughly one per 15 to 20 litres. They will not eat bubble algae or established long hair algae, so they are prevention rather than cure.
