๐Ÿ“– Care guide

Carausius morosus, the laboratory or Indian stick insect, originates in southern India and is now the most widely kept phasmid worldwide. Reaching about 8-10 cm, it lives roughly one to two years. Populations are almost entirely female and reproduce parthenogenetically, so a lone insect will still lay fertile eggs, and colonies build quickly. House a small group in a mesh or netted enclosure taller than it is wide to allow molting, kept at normal room temperature 18-25C with light daily misting for humidity and drinking droplets. Feed fresh bramble (blackberry), ivy, privet, or rose leaves, replacing them regularly and standing stems in water. The main husbandry risks are failed molts from cramped, dry conditions and mould from stale foliage. Utterly harmless and slow-moving, they can be gently coaxed onto a hand, but their fragile legs shed easily, so handle sparingly and let them walk.
