๐ Care guide
Agalychnis callidryas comes from the humid lowland rainforests of Central America. A slender arboreal frog of 5-7 cm, it lives around 5-8 years and is strictly nocturnal, sleeping tucked against leaves by day. Its dazzling colours make it a showpiece, but it is more delicate and demanding than beginner frogs and does not tolerate handling. Keep it in a tall, densely planted terrarium with broad-leaved foliage and branches, warm at 24-28C by day with a cooler night, and high humidity of 70-90 percent maintained by misting or an automated system, plus a shallow water feature. Good ventilation prevents the stagnant, over-wet conditions that cause skin and respiratory disease. Feed appropriately sized crickets and other insects at night, dusted with calcium and vitamins. Their permeable skin is easily harmed by handling and residues, so this is a look-but-don't-touch species enjoyed for its beauty and nocturnal activity.
